  • Should be interesting. I think all small businesses should take to social media. Its extremely useful. Before you go to the conference - here's a tiny appetizer...

Have been guiding a friend who has started a brilliant Project Management tool called Deskaway (great tool btw - we use it for project management, process management, as a data repository, client management etc at a brilliant price)- have been nudging him to get into social media and provide a presence for monitoring and maintenance along with providing avenues for expression. So far it is simple but it is something any brand can do in my opinion.

So the key is to have multiple social media pages:-
    They are:
On Facebook - http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Des... - an example of expression and exploration

On Twitter - http://twitter.com/deskaway - for query solving and adding value through content

On Get Satisfaction - http://getsatisfaction.com/deskaway - for client management

On an active blog! - http://www.deskaway.com/blog/ - this can have multiple utilities and be a social media culmination

A Good Case Study for all small businesses. They drive people to social media activities through the newsletter and the homepage.

I've been trying to convince Sahil (founder of DeskAway) to get users of DeskAway to write on their blog - and incentivise them with upgrades etc.

Making your customers your word of mouth agents is the best way to go and explore an individual's viral co - efficient.

SMM is a great tool for any kind of business. The scope for large businesses is huge because they can do things like monitoring, customer service through social media and also really add great amounts of value with extremely creative applications that have a brand fit.
