nsSwami weighs in

August 5, 2009 :: Shashi Bellamkonda

Hi Folks! You cannot make an omelet without breaking eggs and it seems we have broken a few eggs it seems judging by the number of tweets and a few blog posts (listed below) who are giving us the honor of attempting to “rebrand the internet”. (wow!). This weekend, visitors to Networksolutions.com saw a new look and feel to our Website as well as easier-to-use navigation. This is a result of many months of answering tweets ( we are @netsolcares on Twitter and I am @shashib) , emails and customers who filled up our feedback form and visited our preview site early July.
We also modified and simplified our product catalog and in many cases included additional features in the products. For example our nsWebAddress is a package that includes a domain name, DNS management tools and a business profile with free distribution to 1local directory. This will continue to be enhanced and features added. To consolidate hosting and the components that go with it we are calling this package nsSpace- space to use any way you like. The results of the Small Business Success Index ( http://www.growsmartbusiness.com ) show that about 47% of the small businesses surveyed still do not have a web presence. We decided to introduce these package names after speaking to small businesses who told us that some terms used to describe web services are confusing to them, which makes getting and succeeding online even more difficult, especially for users that do not have technical backgrounds. We hope to help our customers by packaging together solutions that help them start, grow and manage their business online.

The launch of the new storefront is an endeavor to makethe experience simple. If you had used our storefront before Aug 1st to buy a product you will know what I mean by making it simple. We respect everyone’s opinion and acknowledge that some of the posters below have a different opinion on the product names:

We invite you to tell us what you think of the new Website and our new product packages

  • Shashi of Network Solutions,

    First let me say that until today, I didn't know there was a blog for Network Solutions. It's running on Wordpress so that a relief.

    Here's the thing about asking small business owners about the web; they don't know much so it's like asking a person where their glasses are but they can't see.

    Renaming the services was a big mistake because it's like teaching kids to speak Dutch but they live in Italy. You are essentially creating a group of people who cannot speak to anyone else on the internet.

    That said, thanks for listening and acknowledging, "The Twitter"!

    While I really like the new look & feel of the site, the new names really are confusing for us loyal customers that have been with Network Solutions for a long time (I'd also imagine that they don't make much sense to new customers may already be confused by all of the complexities of what they need to get online.) I got a renewal notice this week and was surprised and confused that the hosting package been retroactively renamed to something different that did not make any sense. I took the time to rename the package so I could distinguish from other packages I have. When I logged in the new name was used sporadically throughout my experience creating a bit more confusion.
