Before 1976, I saw Barbara Walters go to Iran and interview the Shah of Iran; a big feather in her cap. Then, Iran was proclaimed as the most pro-Western Islamic country. Much bragging and showing Iranians adopting western wear and music culture, and of course the freedom of Iran women.

We just witnessed the Bush, Cheney, and Rice fear mongers touting just the opposite.

Voice of America was an outreach across the Iron Curtain, to inform those behind closed doors of ditatorships. When the wall came down, former soldiers of Yugoslavia first saw reporter cameras they shouted requests for popular US bands...VOA, got through and made some kind of difference.

It was reported, that the State Department asked Twitter to not shut down for scheduled maintance during the Iran voting protests. Do we Americans know how much the CIA is involved in creating supposedly real events?

I wish Obama success in creating some kind of better communications with Iran!
