Speaking to audiences at events, I often ask the small business owners and entrepreneurs if they have websites for their business or personal use. About half the room raises their hands. This is in line with the findings of the Small Business Success Index which put the figure at only 53% of Small Businesses in the US have websites.
During a keynote at the GrowSmartBiz Conference, Chris Anderson, Executive Editor of WIRED, said that the minute a small business has a website it has gone global. When we organized Events for unintentional entrepreneurs, several folks who probably use computers the whole day would still ask questions about how to go about establishing a web presence.
While you can conduct your business without a website, you should consider the fact that the internet is very prevalent and your audience is searching for you online. Your customers may have already given you a web presence by reviewing you on social networks.
